Decks

A deck that still feels solid in year ten.

Clark County decks live a hard life: nine months of rain, then three months of direct sun. We build for that. Pressure-treated framing, proper ledger flashing, hidden or screwed decking, and a finish schedule that actually protects the wood.

How we do it

Most deck problems start where nobody looks: the ledger board bolted to the house. We flash it, we bolt it, and we check the framing before we put a single new board on top. If the bones are good, resurfacing saves you real money. If they are not, we will tell you plainly.

For finishes we favor penetrating oil stains on cedar and solid-body stains on older wood. Both are chosen for how they wear in a wet climate, not for how they look on the day we leave.

Good to know · Clark County

  • Decks over 30 inches off grade need a permit in most Clark County jurisdictions. We handle it.
  • Best staining window is late June through September, when wood moisture is low.
  • Composite costs more up front and less over ten years. We are happy to price both.

Questions

Decks FAQ

Can you replace the boards but keep my existing frame?

Often, yes. We inspect every joist, beam and post first. If the frame passes, resurfacing is the fastest and cheapest route to a new-looking deck.

Cedar or composite?

Cedar is warmer, cheaper up front and needs a recoat every two to three years. Composite is pricier, needs almost nothing, and holds up well in our rain. We build both and will price both.

How long does a new deck take?

A straightforward 12 by 16 deck is typically one to two weeks on site once the permit is in hand.
